Ketterdam: a bustling hub of international trade where anything can be had for the right price–and no one knows that better than criminal prodigy Kaz Brekker. Kaz is offered a chance at a deadly heist that could make him rich beyond his wildest dreams. But he can’t pull it off alone…

A convict with a thirst for revenge.

A sharpshooter who can’t walk away from a wager.

A runaway with a privileged past.

A spy known as the Wraith.

A Heartrender using her magic to survive the slums.

A thief with a gift for unlikely escapes.

Six dangerous outcasts. One impossible heist. Kaz’s crew is the only thing that might stand between the world and destruction—if they don’t kill each other first.

I'm one of those of those people who thinks villains are way more exciting than the good guys. This book did not stop me form thinking that. It is about a group of criminals pulling an impossible heist. What could be better?

My favorite part about this book was, without a doubt, the characters. All of them were written so well. They didn't seem cookie-cutter or boring. They all had backstories--which was great, because a lot of times not all characters do--that really explained their motives and actions. I don't think there was a (main) character I didn't like by the end, which was big for me because I can't stand books with unlikeable characters--*cough* The Selection *cough*.

Kaz was amazing. I loved him from the very first moment, and it only grew from there. He is a criminal genius. He is ruthless and cruel and clever; perfect. You later find out what turned him into this monsterous gang leader and that he (this really surprised me) has a heart.

[I don't want this to be too long, so I'm not going into detail about every character, but if you want to read that, there are plenty of reviews like that on Goodreads.]

The ships are also great, but it was not a romance heavy book, which was a breath of fresh air in the YA genre. I wholeheartedly ship Inej and Kaz. And Nina and Matthias and Jesper and Wylan (Please tell me that happens in Crooked Kingdom). But that was certainly not the only thing going for the book.

And then there is the plot. The heist was fantastic. Even though it explained their plan, it left out parts, and the changes keep you guessing. I didn't see any of the plot twists coming, and was surprised when they played out.

This book might not be my new favorite (it comes in second though), but the characters are for sure new favorites. Also I am having terrible book hangover after this, and can't will myself to read anything because I'm afraid they won't be as good (well, until The Wicked King comes out TUESDAY!).
